Urodził się w Brighton (UK) w 1968 roku. Początkowo interesował się hip-hopem, disco i ska. Już jako nastolatek został dj'em a swoje muzyczne fascynacje skierował z hip-hopu na acid house a potem rave. Na początku lat 90-tych wydał pierwsze oficjalne produkcje pod różnymi pseudonimami i dla różnych labeli. Potem założył własną wytwórnię Magnetic North, dla której nagrał sporo materiału ale sukces przyniosły mu dopiero trzy EP'ki z serii Red dla Bush Records. Dobry klubowy materiał przypadł do gustu zarówno fanom techno jak i house.
okładka płyty Red 1 Potem przyszedł czas na pełen album - "Archive One". Wydana w 1996 roku płyta to bardzo różnorodna muzyka. Pierwszy utwór "Rhapsody In Red" to podniosła, monumentalna symfonia. Potem jest cała seria klubowego, mocnego techno znanego już z serii EP'ek Red, bardzo taneczny housowy "Southside" oraz kilka tracków przesiąkniętych hip-hopem. Mimo bardzo dobrego przyjęcia albumu od tego czasu aż do dzisiaj Clarke prawie nie tworzy własnej muzyki. Zajmuje się prawie wyłącznie robieniem remiksów i nagrywaniem kompilacji, z których przede wszystkim warto posłuchać dwóch części Electro Boogie (!K7) z klasyką muzyki electro oraz dwupłytowy miks "World Service".
okładka płyty X-Mix Nie można też zapomnieć o głównej profesji Dave Clarka czyli dj'owaniu. Jest na pewno jednym z najlepszych, najbardziej uznanych i najbardziej zapracowanych brytyjskich dj'ów. Rezyduje w takich klubach jak Bugged Out, Shine, w belgijskim Fuse czy Nitsa w Barcelonie, nieustannie przemieszcza się po całym globie grając głównie czyste techno. Często można również usłyszeć jego sety radiowe, np. w Radio One.
Fani technicznych brzmień na pewno liczą, że Dave Clarke jeszcze nie powiedział ostatniego słowa jako twórca i że w końcu wyda coś równie dobrego jak seria Red.
