Cristian Varela (a.k.a:Carlos Duran, Chris Vareland) pochodzi z rodziny o artystycznych tradycjach, jego ojciec był pierwszym aktorem dramatycznym w Dramatic National Theatre w Madrycie; matka z babką uczyły baletu w Lycee Francais De Madrit, a dziadek byl dyrektorem Radio Madrit.

Żyjąc w takim kreatywnym otoczeniu w wieku 9 lat zaispirowal sie grą na fortepianie i rozpoczał lekcje. 2 lata pozniej w 1985 pisze swoją pierwszą klasyczną kompozycję która wywarła wielkie wrażenie na jego nauczycielu.
Niektóre następne jego kompozycje zostaly włączone do repertuaru teatralnego. Wtedy też zaczęła sie jego owocna kariera jako kompozytora i pianisty.

W roku 1990 kiedy zaczal słuchac Kraftwerk, Moroder, Split Second, Depeche Mode, Vangelis i wielu innych wykonawców muzyki elektronicznej zainspirował sie nią na tyle iż zaczą tworzyć swoje pierwsze produkcje w tym kierunku. W 1991 pisze swój pierwszy utwor elektroniczny “Intruders”, który został skomponowany na Classical Dance Festivals(LFM),a sukces jaki osiągnął spowodował kolejne produkcje dla kolejnych festiwali.

Tak zaczyna sie kariera Cristiana Vareli jako dj'a i producenta myzyki elektronicznej. Cristian Varela a.k.a Chris Vareland aka Carlos Duran posiada miedzynarodową opinie jednego z najbardziej charyzmatycznych artystów sceny elektronicznej. Jego spektakularne sety na 4 gramofony prezentowane wciąż na całym świecie czynia Cristiana numerem 1 w Hiszpanii.

Cristian objechał niezliczoną liczbę imprez i wydarzen muzycznych na calym świecie wliczając Tokyo, USA, Anglia, Colombia & Canada i cała Europa. Wystepowal na wielu europejskich festiwalach jak Love Parade (Berlin), The Awakenings (Holland), I Love Techno (Belgium), Techno Parade (Paris), Festimad (Madrid), Liberty One and Nature One (Germany). Wydał wiele produkcji dla takich wytworni jak Primate Recordings (UK), Primevil (UK), Session Recordings (Belgium), Planet Vision (Germany), Elephanthaus (USA), Pornographic Recordings (jego własne wydawnictwo z Bailey'em) i jego własny label Donkeyhead Recordings.

Ponad 35 produkcji i remixów wydał we wspolpracy z takimi gwiazdami jak Speedy J, Ben Sims, Marco Bailey, Pascal F.E.O.S & Tim Baker. Jego produkcje ukazywały sie na listach najwazniejszych pism i magazynów specjalistycznych jak DJ Magazine, Deejay, Groove, BG, Mixmag & Up Front Magazine. Jego muzyka to mieszanka przeróżnych styli muzycznych - ambient, electro, house i techno. 11 lat pracy i doswiadczen uczyniło go jednym z największych światowych twórców i autorytetów w muzyce elektronicznej.
